Helps Ministry,
Inc. is a non-profit organization that was founded in
1995 and is located in Houston, Texas. Helps Ministry
was founded and is led by Missionary and Reverend,
Robert L. Mitchell.
Robert L. Mitchell was born,
and lived, in Louisiana until graduating from high
school. Shortly after he moved to Houston, Texas for
employment, he was drafted into the army. In 1955 he
married Grace Sweet. They came to know the Lord through
the ministry of Reverend & Mrs. Corlis L. Dees at
Irvington Pentecostal Church in Houston, Texas. After
being called to preach, Robert Mitchell began to
evangelize for approximately two years in and around
Houston.
At this time, he was voted in as Pastor
at Apostolic Lighthouse Church in
Dayton, Ohio. During a five-year pastorate, Robert and Grace built a new church and saw the congregation grow from 23 to over 500 members. Several years later, he was asked to pastor at Stonewall Pentecostal Church in Houston, Texas. During this 20-year tenure, a new church was built and the name changed to World of Faith, Inc.

Robert
and Grace have two grown children who are both in
full-time ministry. Their daughter, Cyndi, is married to
Steve Austin; together they have three sons and they
pastor Champions Covenant Church in Houston, Texas.
Their son, Robbie, is married to Lisa, has two little
girls and is pastor of Church of Pentecost in Asheville,
North Carolina.
In the span of 25 years of
ministry, Reverend Robert L. Mitchell has traveled to
over 71 nations, and made over thirty trips to India. He
has served as pastor in two churches, built homes,
churches and bible colleges around the world. Overseas
he is passionate about taking care of the destitute and
needy as well as evangelizing in the tribal and slum
areas. He is loved by thousands of people as is
evidenced by their affectionate nickname for him, “Papa
Mitchell.”
The ministries of prophecy and healing
that have been placed inside of Reverend Mitchell have
led many souls to the Lord. The call and anointing on
his life has allowed him to witness many miracles and
visitations with angels.
A much
sought after prophet, Reverend Mitchell is a true
revivalist and soul winner. Like the God he passionately
serves, he is in "The Restoration Business." He is noted
as a man to whom prayer is as essential as breathing and
miracles remain the staple of his daily walk with God.
Helping India… The work that Reverend Mitchell does in
India was originally founded in the early 1960’s by a
man named K.E. Mathew. Mr. Mathew started a pioneer work
in the northern part of India, in the Kerala state and
called it “India Pentecostal Church of God.” His hard
work paid off with 54 churches up in the hills of the
Iddukki district. He also started a bible college to
train young men to reach the remote villages in India.
Before his death in 1988, at the age of 60, he met
Reverend Mitchell and asked him to help the ministers in
India as well as the bible college students.
At
this same time, Mr. Mathew’s son-in-law, Samuel K.
Thomas, resigned his job as a registered nurse in
Oklahoma City and moved to India to look after the work
on a daily basis. Since that time, Brother Thomas has
been teamed up with Reverend Mitchell as they have
established churches and supported the associated
ministers, managed the bible college, and fed orphan
children in Kerala.
Free medical assistance is
another area we focus on for the poor Indian people.
Once a month, as funds are available, Brother Thomas and
his assistants travel to the mountain villages to give
free check-ups and medicine. Since he is a registered
nurse, he is able to help the doctors in this program,
especially since there are no hospitals
available.
Helps Ministry International
Orphanage… Two years ago, Helps
Ministry International Orphanage was opened to give the
abandoned and “thrown away” children a second chance
where they have food, shelter, education, and most of
all, a new hope. In addition, 126 churches with 150
ministers in South India are assisted on a monthly basis
by Helps Ministry.
At this time, we are in the
process of completing a six-story facility to
accommodate more orphans in the Kerala state of India. In addition, a two-story 40x100 building will be constructed near the Indian Ocean to take in orphans left abandoned from the Tsunami. Our prayer is that the day will come when every tear will be wiped away from the eyes of all orphans in India.
